Professor Martin Schreibman says our oceans have been overfished beyond repair. If we're going to keep eating fish and chips, tuna tartare, and all those omega-3 fatty acids, we may have to rely on aquaculture. Schreibman is working to bring those fish farms into the city. This unit was built by Fisheries & Aquaculture Technnology Diploma student, Julie V., based on barrel-ponics designed by Travis W Hughey Nile tilapia (from Redfish Ranch - are cultured with various edible plants including tomatoes, basil, lettuce, dill, green beans, cucumbers, and broccoli. Super cool!

Life is different here! It could be because of the panorama of physical beauty. It could be the stress-relieving effects of deep-breathing fresh ocean air. Perhaps it is the more relaxed pace of life. Maybe it results from the influence of an eclectic combination of people who have shared the Island for generations – the First Nations people, artists and artisans, organic farmers, fishers and loggers, environmentalists, professionals and business people. It could be because of the daily experince Islanders have with Canada’s piece of paradise, and knowing their place is in it.
